What is Wander Women Adventure Race?

Wander Women Adventure Race is created by women, for women. Wander Women is a fun team event that’s beginner friendly and designed to empower – not break – women. It’s a navigational race in teams of four, based on points.

Teams receive a map and clue sheet at registration to use to trek/run and mountain bike your way around either our 6 hour or 3 hour course collecting checkpoints and completing fun mystery activities to claim your points.

The team who gets the most points in the fastest time wins. The idea is to complete the whole course to gain maximum points. Teams are not penalised for coming in late. Stay out there and enjoy the beautiful taiao as you complete the course and have a great time with your friends.

Wander Women is more than an adventure race, it’s about making memories with your besties and having that well-needed girl’s weekend away in a beautiful location.

 

The Course

Designed for beginners as well as experienced adventure racers – you choose the course that’s the right challenge for you: 3 Hour and 6 Hour!

Our 3 Hour Course:
Designed for beginners to adventure racing, the navigation is basic and appropriate for everyone. Mountain biking stages are non-technical.

The 3hr race is designed for beginners to adventure racing. Navigation will be basic and appropriate for everyone. The Mountain bike will be non-technical.
To complete the 3hr race you will need to be able to walk/jog approx. 5-7km off road, and mountain bike 10 – 15km. The race is set so most teams will finish between 2 and 4 hours.

Our 6 Hour Course
The 6 hour race will also be designed for beginners. The terrain may be a bit tougher then the 3 hour race.

To complete the 6hr race you will need to be able to jog/walk approx. 10-15km off road, and mountain bike approx. 25km on forestry roads and farmland. The race is set so that most teams will finish between 5 and 7 hours.

The woman who participate in Wander Woman really are awesome. They are kind, thoughtful and don’t mind helping others out.

I have been part of the other Woman’s adventure events and never have I experienced the same level of comradely. This is definitely something to be proud of, the woman who participate in your event are amazing.

Our 3 hour and 6 hour courses both include two mystery activities that are designed to be completed and count towards your teams’ points.

Once you complete the mystery activity, points will be added to your clue sheet by officials. Please note, if you choose not to complete the activity, then your team will not be awarded the points.

 

The course is a secret until Friday 11th November when teams receive their maps at registration. This is when your team can begin planning and strategizing. You will search for checkpoints to collect as you navigate the course – they will either be punches to record on your team clue sheet, or letters to write down (for which we recommend a waterproof artists pencil to record answers).

Points are awarded for every checkpoint correctly recorded. We encourage teams to complete the whole course.

While navigating the course, all team members must stay within 100 metres of each other at ALL times.

Teams may not receive any help from outside sources.

Wander Women Adventure Race is a timed race. The clock will start at the beginning of the race and your time to complete will be taken when your team has crossed the finish line.

Placings are based on points gained over the course. In the case where teams are tied the faster team will be placed higher. The first team across the finish line with the highest points will win.

You will not get extra points for finishing early. If your team decides to stop and rest – the clock still continues.

Merit prizes will be awarded to the first three teams in each category:

  • Open
  • Veterans
  • Masters

Spot prizes are randomly awarded to all participants at Prizegiving. You must be at the Prizegiving to receive your spot prize.

In order to participate in Wander Women Adventure Race, you must:

  • Provide a completed registration form by the team captain
  • Pay the team entry fee in full
  • Provide a signed waiver

Both our 3 hour and 6 hour races have three team categories:

Each Wander Women team consists of four women. Participants must be aged 13 years or older on race day.

Each team member enters under their own responsibility – those under 18 years of age must have written consent from their parent or guardian who will judge if the child should participate in the event, start and continue to the finish line.

** Organisers reserve the right to stop a competitor or team from setting off or continuing the race.

** Support crews are not needed for Wander Women Adventure Race.

 

INDIVIDUAL GEAR

This must be carried by each team member:

  • Survival blanket
  • Thermal top (long sleeved
  • Beanie
  • Whistle
  • Water proof jacket
  • Running shoes
  • Backpack
  • Food & water (we recommend at least 3l water)
  • $2 coin
  • Mask

BIKE STAGE

  • Mountain Bike: brakes must work, wheels safe, tyres in good condition, handle bar plugs must be in. No E-Bikes. 
  • Cycle Helmet

 

TEAM GEAR

Items listed are required per team:

  • First aid kit – minimum contents: triangular bandage, crepe bandage, strapping tape, knife, antihistamine, gauze bandage
  • 2x Compass – Note: 2 per team required
  • Topo maps – provided
  • Cell phone (fully charged)
  • Map pens/waterproof pencil & map bags

 

** Individual and team gear will be checked at registration.

** NO GPS ALLOWED!

 

 

All participants compete at their own risk and the organisers will not accept liability for any personal accident or injury during the event.

A liability waiver form must be signed by the team captain on behalf of the team in advance. 

 Competitors should ensure that they are adequately insured. Competitors under 18 years of age must have the waiver signed by a parent or guardian.

You are responsible for your own safety. As you are on farmland, remote bush, near rivers, there are many risks out there. It is your own responsibility to keep yourself safe.

Please be mindful of stock. In some cases you may come across stock. Please avoid getting too close. Please leave all gates closed and climb at the hinge end.

Participants must respect instructions given by the officials and must also follow their decisions regarding health security and safety.

Breaches of the rules contained in this entry form may lead to points being forfeited, or disqualification. In addition unfair behaviour, obtaining information or advantage from an outside source, abandonment of a team member, intentional damage, or dropping of rubbish may also result in disqualification.

There will not be any entry refunds after 31st August 2022. Any cancellations prior to this will incur a 50% administration fee.

If the event is postponed there will be no refunds. Your entry will be transferred to the new date.

In case of withdrawal of a competitor or entire team, the captain must inform the organisers by any means available in the shortest possible time. If a team member pulls out of the race, you can continue the race with 3 members and will still be ranked. If 2 team members withdraw you may continue but will be un-ranked. If 3 members withdraw your team can not continue.

There will be no refund of entry fees in the event that the race is cancelled due to forces outside the organisers control such as weather. However we will do our best to postpone the event.
